"Invigorate us with your mercy,"
he prayed.
For only when your mercy enlightens our way
do we see green pastures straight ahead,
instead of dark clouds of wrath on the horizon.
only when mercy compasses us about
do we feel the presence of God
instead of the lack of human hands.
only when mercy opens our ears
do we hear gospel melodies
instead of--yes, even among--the siren songs of human tragedy.
only when mercy graces our lips
do we taste forgiveness
and share the broken bread with those who break us.
only when mercy moves our hearts
will our feet skip like the deer through the cornfields
instead of languishing like an overturned beetle, waiting to die.
Lord, invigorate us with your mercy,
for only then can our souls
sing joyously,
rest securely,
move forward,
forgive unabashedly,
love freely.

Let it be marked on the history pages of Full Moon Ink Splots that this is the first post co-authored by my wonderful, mysterious, secret co-author....the one I'll be writing children's books with someday, Lord-willing. :)
