Written on Ezra's first birthday, not complete, but what I got done!
We've given ourselves the assignment today to each write one page describing our sweet one year old Ezra. It's our hope that this will continue as a tradition each birthday, and that we might look back and see how both our little man and also our perspective of him changes over the years.
Ezra ... when I say his name a little bubbling ball of energy comes to mind. He is active, adventurous, and daring, never wanting to sit still for even a moment.
In stature he is tall like his daddy, broad shouldered like a swimmer, and still at one year full of lots of pudgy baby fat. His hair is the lightest blond you could get without being white, sometimes you almost can't see it, though it's growing more and more noticeable as the volume increases. To me the little wisps of baby hair resemble the finest gold--though more precious of course--when they dance in the sunlight. He also has the best of eyelashes, thanks to his daddy. Random strangers often comment how long they are!
If I had to describe Ezra's favorite activities, they'd definitely include exploring outside, playing duplos, nursing, eating and trying not the foods on his highchair tray, but those on mommy and daddy's plate, and seeing other babies. Of course, he also spends his days heartily engaged in reading books (in which he has taken a fond interest of late), going on adventures in the car with mommy (he's always been good in the car), and just generally exploring and making messes at this age!
Ezra loves people. In the store, even just this week, I've noticed that when we see someone in the same aisle as us, and then walk away, he'll start saying bye-bye to them. And my, how fascinated he is by other babies. We've had to let him make some friends older than he is, mostly just because he is so precocious and large and wiggly that he would probably crush or hurt the babies his age. He needs to play with older babies who can defend themselves!
In temperament, he is pleasant, though desperately in need of company like his mama. If left alone he will often throw a fit!
